Beer & Cider Carbonation

Carbonation (or ‘forced’ carbonation) within beers and ciders is crucial for a variety of reasons. Not only does it enhance appearance, but the flavour and aroma are both improved too. Forced carbonation is the method of choice for breweries and bottling plants today.

We understand the need for a reliable CO2 supply, so as well as manufacturing a CO2 pressure vessel that is tailored to your exact requirements, we can work with gas suppliers to source a CO2 supply without the need to be tied to a single gas contract.

Carbonation explained…

In short, this involves the process of dissolving carbon dioxide in a liquid, usually water, and under high pressure. The ‘fizz’ effect produced within your market beers and ciders occurs when lower pressure is used to release the CO2 from the solution, giving you the trademark small bubbles. The beer is placed into a sealed, or soon to be sealed, container and carbonation is rapidly added so the CO2 is absorbed into the beer under high pressure.

This process results in little or no sediment, which in turn looks more appealing to the consumer and is delivered in a short time frame – ideal for meeting market demands.

Advantages of Forced Carbonation:

  • Sediment is decreased significantly.
  • Quicker processing.
  • Crystal clear appearance.
  • Most cost-effective.
  • Aroma is enhanced.
  • Flavour is improved.

Regulatory Compliance Guaranteed

Vessel manufactures construct pressure vessels under various codes, IGC Engineering are flexible and can accommodate the design to suit the clients requirement, the most popular is Pressure Equipment Directive (Directive 97/23/EC) (PED).  IGC also deal with ASME – Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code in the United States and work under BCGA recommendations in the United Kingdom. Each association works with suppliers of pressure vessels through a dialog with government agencies.

In addition we as company comply with the Health and Safety Executive to promote the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR), this ensures both customer and operatives are working with in UK laws, and more importantly are confident in knowing safety and security is at the forefront of the design and manufacture.
